What to expect

About the role 

We are looking for a Finance Manager to run the financial and management accounting functions of the group’s French entities, ensuring the finances are effectively managed and maintained. 

You will be part of an international Finance team with a head office in the UK and will manage and develop a Finance Assistant so that, together, you will be fully responsible for all aspects of the French finance function.

What you’ll be doing

As Finance Manager you will be responsible for:

Day to day

  • Full ownership of the ledgers, including responsibility for ensuring Balance Sheets are reconciled and all journals are correct and accurate
  • Managing all banking – ensuring that suppliers are paid on time, and customers pay all amounts due, and so maximising free cash
  • Updating and maintaining the control environment including appropriate processes, reviews, authorisations & reconciliations, and developing financial management mechanisms that minimise risk to the group
  • Managing the Company’s NetSuite accounting systems
  • Provision of all information required by the central finance team in the UK, including weekly debt and cash reports, monthly results packs, annual statutory and budget packs and any ad hoc requirements
  • Own the relationship with external tax, statutory reporting and payroll advisers, and work with them to ensure all submissions / payments are accurate and timely
  • Managing the provision of sales, margin, overhead and staff cost information to business partners, and working with the Group FP&A Manager to develop a full understanding of sales and message cost

Group reporting

  • Preparation and submission of monthly reporting packs, including commentary on performance in the period compared to budget and prior year (verbal and written)
  • Preparation and submission of year-end statutory and tax reporting packs – see below
  • Preparation of weekly cash forecasts and aged debt reports
  • Preparation of annual budget submissions, as well as assisting with any in year / longer term forecasts

Statutory and tax 

  • French statutory and tax submissions, with support from external advisers
  • Preparing statutory and tax packs for French entities and submitting to group for consolidated reporting
  • Liaising with external auditors and tax advisers – at Group and local level

People 

  • Lead, manage, motivate and develop the Finance Assistant, so that the team are fully responsible for all aspects of the French finance function
  • Ensure we have a high performing, committed, accessible French Finance Team
  • Liaise with different departments to ensure the Finance department is properly supporting the needs of the operating businesses
  • Supervise & review performance of individuals in the team

Ad Hoc

  • Assist with the purchase and integration of any future French acquisitions into the group
  • Keep abreast of changes in financial regulations and legislation
  • Take on any other finance related tasks and responsibilities as required

What we’re looking for

We’re interested in hearing from candidates with skills and experience in the following areas:

  • A relevant accounting qualification
  • Up to date knowledge of both IFRS and French GAAP
  • Experience of working in industry (as well as/rather than in an accounting practice)
  • Experience of balance sheet reconciliations and their review
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and over the telephone with a wide variety of individuals
  • Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information and produce clear verbal and written reports
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Line management experience
  • Ability to work on your own initiative, prioritise work, handle pressure and make day-to-day decisions
  • Fluent French language skills and the ability to confidently converse in English

It would be great if you also had:

  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Experience of group reporting / working for a remote subsidiary of a head office
  • The ability to think strategically and act pragmatically at all times 
  • Previous exposure to foreign exchange transactions and translations
  • Experience of working within a private equity environment and reporting to a remote head office
