What to expect

About the role 

We are looking for an Engineering Team Lead to play a key part in helping us to progress our technology roadmap. As global business messaging moves from SMS to IP-based channels such as RCS, WhatsApp and other Instant Messaging Platforms, this role is critical to Commify succeeding in building scalable, high performing platforms and products that leverage the cost benefits of Cloud, allowing us to test hypotheses and deploy to production on a continuous basis to attain fast feedback. You will be responsible for the design, build and delivery of our Azure-based Rich Content Platform and Products that are bringing the future of business messaging to our customers.

The role holder will also be responsible for delivering leadership and management to a high-performing, cross-functional engineering team.

What you’ll be doing

As Engineering Team Lead you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the customer experience is at the heart of all decision making
  • Working with the Head of IT and the Rich Messaging Product Owner to ensure feature and technical roadmaps are aligned with project plans and product roadmaps
  • Driving the roadmap for our next generation of products and platforms e.g. Rich Content 
  • The full development lifecycle, from design and prototype through development, testing, and deployment; supporting a ‘you build it, you own it’ mindset
  • Being a proponent of TDD and BDD, ensuring your team is delivering high-quality software
  • Delivering to rapid timescales in a dynamic environment and supporting the team by implementing fast feedback mechanisms to drive continuous improvement
  • Using Jira metrics effectively to balance team commitments between feature delivery, technical debt and dedicated time for personal / team development
  • Carrying out monthly squad health checks to capture areas where the team are performing well as well as areas that require improvement and attention
  • Working effectively with other engineering teams to share ideas and progress in your team; embracing a culture of internal open source to help improve our codebase
  • Demonstrating leadership: looking after the needs of your team, helping with career and personal development
  • Inspiring and leading a Microsoft .NET, Azure and Angular engineering team
  • Demonstrating drive and enthusiasm, innovating, working with minimal direction, meeting requirements, and delivering to a high standard

What we’re looking for

We’re interested in hearing from candidates with experience in the following areas:

  • Strong leadership experience and collaboration across multiple delivery teams
  • Strong technical leadership in building highly scalable software solutions using Microsoft .Net
  • Experience of designing and building Microsoft Azure-based solutions (ideally using the Azure PaaS components)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of CI/CD in a Cloud based environment (ideally Azure)
  • Strong experience in Scrum agile software delivery
  • Educated at a degree or equivalent level

It would be great if you also had:

  • Demonstrable ability to manage resource capacity across multiple streams of work
  • Good working knowledge of project management
