With the London 2012 Olympic Games now less than two years away, the recruitment of the army of volunteers needed has started. Some 70,000 ‘Games Makers’ are needed to assist with a wide range of services all around the country – such as ticket sales, transportation, medical assistance and helping with the athletes’ accomodation.
Almost a million people across the UK have offered their services and the orgainsers now face the Olympic-sized task of selecting the Games Makers. Sifting through the mountain of applications, arranging interviews and then creating all the shift pattterns (each volunteer needs to work for a mimium of ten days) is a massive logistical operation – requiring excellent communication between organisers and applicants, regardless of location.
