Below we provide reponses to many of Frequently Asked Questions about our SMS API service. In addition, the FAQs on our developer pages contain more information on how best to use our SMS API - with Java, PHP, C# etc - all major development environments are supported.

How good is your SMS service?

We have direct network connections in the UK, which means your SMS messages are delivered within seconds and we will always use the best performing network at anytime to deliver your messages.

Which methods can I use to send and receive SMS directly from my applications, websites and other software?

You can send SMS using an ActiveX Component, HTTP POST or SOAP / XML Web service. Our API comparison chart shows the functionality available within each method of sending. SOAP/XML Web Service Esendex provides a SOAP interface to enable developers to integrate SMS functionality into their applications. All services are accessible using the HTTP or HTTPS protocols.

Full sample implementations are included in the SMS API and we encourage anyone investigating this option to start here.

HTTP Form Post Messenger exposes a Form Post interface to enable developers to integrate SMS functionality into their applications.

All services are accessible using the HTTP or HTTPS protocols. ActiveX component Esendex provides an ActiveX component with a COM interface that enables you to integrate your SMS applications, written in COM-compliant languages such as VB6, ASP, Delphi and C++, with our services.

Does it matter what platform or language my application uses?

No - we support all major development environments - Java, PHP, C# etc The development language you use, will determine whether you can use SOAP/XML Web Service, HTTP Form Post or an ActiveX component to send and receive SMS messages.

To help fast-track your development, we provide SMS SDKs which cover the main development languages/environments. Our SDKs include sample code, reusable libraries and tips for using the Esendex service within your applications.

Please refer to our SMS SDK (link to language/environment and method of sending) section. If you don't see your language/environment listed, then please email support@esendex.com and we'll be happy to advise.

Are the services accessible using HTTPS?

Yes, using a server provider certificate.

Is it easy to manage my account?

It is very quick and easy to manage your account. Login to your account via our website and view recent activity, see how many messages are left in the account, and purchase credits at anytime. We will also send you automated low credit warning emails to let you know when your messaging limit is running low.

What payment options do you offer?

SMS Plan customers can choose between Direct Debit or standard account terms. Pay as you go customers can purchase SMS messages online at anytime via our secure website.

What is a customised sender ID?

By default SMS messages are sent from the virtual mobile number that is assigned to your account when you set it up.  The customised sender ID allows you to change this to an 11 character combination of letters or numbers such as your company name, department, or a campaign. When the recipient receives your SMS they will see this name rather than a mobile number. Unlike other messaging providers, we provide this service for free.
